Where in the world are our writers?
Jonah Miller
Founder/Editor-in-Chief
Westchester, New York
Growing up, I have always loved maps. Locating the fifty states and all the countries on a world map happened to be my favorite pastime. Years later, instead of simply finding countries on the map, I now like to go more in depth, exploring unique cultures of these foreign locations. Creating this paper was a combination of everything I love: geography, people, politics, and journalism. When I am not at school, I swim for the Varsity Swim Team during the winter and run for the Track Team during the spring. I live in Westchester, New York with my parents, my two younger brothers, and my goldendoodle.
Federico KG
Montevideo, Uruguay
I’m a high school senior and am Uruguayan, Chinese, and American. I love binging shows and movies. Seriously, I’ll watch at least one show per week, and I’ve always thought animals were pretty cool and will probably gear my life towards animal rehabilitation. I hope to write about things you haven’t heard of yet and show how interconnected our current world is.
Taleena Chandaria
Geneva, Switzerland
While I was born in Singapore, I grew up in Switzerland. While I hold British and Canadian passports, I feel more connected to India and Kenya. I do not possess the most conventional cultural past. I hope to be able to combine both my passion for educating others and my love for writing and journalism in order to share my personal experiences and perspectives on the world.
Swanica Shah
Mumbai, India
Hodophole (a lover of travel) probably best describes me! I am always planning our next family holiday. I enjoy finding aesthetic places to take Instagram pictures and unmatched places to eat. Although I have lived in India my whole life, I have been fortunate enough to travel all around the world - from Kazakhstan to the Maldives! Writing has always been a passion of mine. From the age of nine, I was captivated by poetry.
Laura Moshier
Columbia, South Carolina
No, I don’t like sweet tea or country music, and I have never once in my life used the word “reckon” in a sentence. Although “Y’all” is definitely in my top ten most used words, I am probably one of the least southern southerners you will ever meet which always allows for some sort of adventure.
Eli Winter
Bartlesville, Oklahoma
I enjoy spending time writing about political issues, hanging out with friends and family, and acting. My political views are very close to those of the legendary TV host Jon Stewart, democractic socialist.
Isabella Bolivar
Islamorada, Florida
I am the typical girl living in the Florida Keys with the sun-kissed hair you see in the movies, living in shorts and sandals. Living here is honestly fun until your boat breaks. I feel closer to my home town in Colombia, and I try to escape Islamorada whenever possible. I want to further continue to explore all the different cultures throughout South America.
Clara Paul
Caracas, Venezuela
Hailing from Caracas, Venezuela, I am a lover of arepas, the word “chevere,” and baseball. As an expert of surviving power outages and times of crisis, I am confident I can be the next Alone winner.
Sofia Grimaldi
Mexico City, Mexico
Changes and experiences shape us into who we are. In the last three years, I have lived in three different countries: Venezuela, the United States, and Mexico. Moving frequently has not been easy but it has made me more mature. Moving to Mexico from the United States was diffucult (but the tacos certainly helped). One of my favorite things about Mexico is how the locals find my accent fascinating.
P.S. if you give me a chocolate chip cookie, you will win my heart.
Maggie Doyle
Birmingham, Alabama
My name is Maggie Doyle, and I am a junior from Birmingham, Alabama! Outside of school, I enjoy reading, backpacking, running, and exploring B’ham. I am excited to be writing for Street View News, and I look forward to learning from other teenagers of different backgrounds.
Victoria Velasco
Quito, Ecuador
Living in a small country like Ecuador with problems such as corruption, drug trafficking, and a decade marked by the lack of freedom of speech has made me think about how Latin American journalism is being shaped by politics, society, and religion. I offer stories from the Equator, with a different perspective than the traditional media.
Isa Hernandez
Caracas, Venezuela
Hi! I am Isabella, and I live in Venezuela. I am just a normal girl who likes to party and have fun. Everyone knows me as the girl who is always smiling - for me, everything has a positive side even though I cannot do normal things like walk in the streets or go to the grocery store. My home is wherever the beach is.
Magda Paul
Caracas, Venezuela
A chupetica de ajo from Venezuela (and no, that is not in Minnesota) who obsessively uses the cartwheel emoji. When I am not in Model UN, you can find me stuffing myself with Peanut M&Ms or attempting to read every single classic novel available at Barnes and Noble. By basically being Buddy the Elf, I am forever scarred by the fact that in Venezuela, we have blue skies and sunny days year round. I want snow!
Naina Makkad
Washington, D.C.
Though originally from the sunny beaches of Southern California, the past three years living in the heart of democracy has opened my eyes to a new world. Over the last three years, I have felt the radical sense of change in the air; from attending marches to running letter writing campaigns - kids in DC know how to make their voices heard. I am now a senior in Maryland where I run cross country and swim; but if I’m not doing that, you’ll always see me with a camera in my hand!
Ella Anderson
Long Island, Maine
My home can be compared to the relationship of Long Island and Manhattan except a million times smaller. I live on Long Island, Maine. Three miles long, a mile a half wide, and a forty five minute boat ride from Portland, Maine, the biggest city in the state. In the city I am a junior at Portland High School. I love to write, read, make art, and learn about the world around me.
Megh Bindra
Manila, The Philippines
Hi I'm Megh! I’m from the incredibly chaotic San Francisco city -- one of the biggest parts of my identity. I’m so blessed to have had the opportunity to move around my entire life to countries including Kenya and to where i currently live in the Philippines. I’m super into rap, activism, and fashion, and I can't wait to share everything I know about what it means to be a third culture kid.
Allyson Levy
Silicon Valley, California
Hi! I’m Allyson Levy and I’m from sunny Northern California. The sandy beaches of Santa Cruz or the bustling city of San Francisco feel like home to me, but I live in the heart of technology, Silicon Valley. Only 5 miles away from Google’s headquarters and only 6 miles from Tesla’s, I live at the capital of innovation, with intelligent people everywhere; but just so you know, I have no desire to be an engineer. Writing and traveling to different places around the world is more my style.
Sage Heleana
Asheville, North Carolina
Between Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains rest a small city bursting with flare and chaotic energy. Asheville, North Carolina, the city that I call home, consists of Art Deco architecture and free spirit vibes that makes it stand out from other cities in the southern United States. Outside of school, you’ll probably find me visiting local coffee shops or driving through the Blue Ridge Parkway!
Emma Moore
Brooklyn, Michigan
Just a small town girl who goes on drives to gas stations with friends for fun. I love to spend my time exploring Michigan’s many beautiful lakes in the summer and ski slopes in the winter. I have a passion for journalism, tennis, and traveling. I dream to tour the world and experience the many different and beautiful cultures.
Anna Dai-Liu
San Diego, California
大家好 (hello, everyone)! I’m Anna Dai-Liu, from San Diego, California, where the temperature hitting freezing is about as common as Halley’s Comet and the appearance of rain is a miracle sent from heaven (let’s not even talk about snow). From a young age, my parents encouraged me to read, and that’s evolved into a passion for journalism and creative writing. In addition to interest in literary arts, I’m also a dancer, having trained in ballet for 13 years. In the future, I’d like to pursue a career in the STEM field (my inner ten-year-old has a burning desire to be a forensic scientist like Sherlock Holmes). I hope you all find some sort of meaning in my work because my ability to find meaning in my mess of a brain is...questionable, at best. (Enjoy!)
Alyce Brown
Bettendorf, Iowa
Having lived in a few states, I finally ended up in small town Iowa, and I love it here. (I promise it’s not all corn.) I absolutely love matcha, filmmaking, and all things journalism, and am very excited to be apart of street view news!
Daniella Espina
Tegucigalpa, Honduras
When people describe me they often use the adjective outspoken. I am not one that can hold in her thoughts by any means. In my sixteen years of life, I've adapted to my three nationalities, Honduran, Guatemalan, and American. I was born in New Jersey but I've lived for the most part in Honduras, a country that has taught me so much about myself and people. Living in these countries I've learned to see the world with a broader, more vulnerable and open perspective. I speak and write about everything going on in my mind (which I can tell you is a lot). I continue to find new things about myself and the world through my writing today, and it has become my biggest passion in life quickly, and it is certainly just the beginning.
Rylie Xiong
Beijing, China
Hi! My name is Rylie. Throughout my life, I have moved back and forth between Canada and China. I’m a junior at an international school in Beijing, and I am interested in going into journalism or writing in the future. In my free time I like to read, draw, and bake.
Colter Sienkiewicz
Livingston, Montana
"Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans." -John Lennon. My name is Colter Sienkiewicz. I live in Livingston, Montana where you might find me alpine skiing or trail running. I have always been a little stir crazy. I want to travel the world, and writing is my means to do so, whether it is in my imagination or if my writing does end up taking me on adventures.
MeiLan Haberl
Vienna, Austria
Born and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and currently flying solo in Europe before college! An adventurer at heart, I’ve been lucky enough to explore everywhere from NYC to the Swiss Alps to Kazakhstan over the past couple years. Amateur adult, decent hockey player, compulsive stress-baker, and obsessive collector of artistic skills. Always hungry for new stories.
Aly Lee
San Diego, California
Raised in San Diego, I’m a half Chinese and half Korean girl who is bilingual... in Spanish. I’ve found my passion in soccer, reading, community service, and, of course, writing. I’m so grateful for this opportunity to share my own perspective in this rapidly changing environment, as I truly believe words and compassion are how we change the world!
Mikayla Havison
Fort Wayne, Indiana
One of my most vivid childhood memories is flying on my stuffed dragon to Morocco. Of course, this took place in the confines of my preschool, but even to this day, I wonder what secrets the world has to offer. In the future, I hope to use my love for culture and writing in the fields of anthropology and journalism. When I'm not writing, studying, or exploring my midwestern city, I am unsuccessfully brainstorming a cure for my cat allergies.
Kynesha Robles
Malolos, Philippines
Hailing from a small city in the Philippines, my DNA is made up of a penchant for learning and history (I live in Malolos, the culture capital of the country), good food (my mom grew up in Pampanga, the culinary capital), and repetition (through rewatching sitcoms and rom-coms). I am also a lot like Jo March of Little Women: in love with writing, ambitious, loves her liberty too well to be in any hurry to give it up, and intends to make her own way in the world.
Caroline Cavalier
Westchester, New York
Hi, I’m Caroline. I live in Westchester, New York and I am a junior in high school. I love to participate in school activities that bring people together as I am the founder of the Creative Photography Club and captain of our school’s Varsity Alpine Ski Team. I also consider myself a storyteller, expressing myself through my writing pieces and photography. Although I love telling stories of my own, I value the amount of information you can gain listening to other people’s. For example, I enjoy listening to music, finding new artists (photographers, musicians, etc.) on social media, going to exhibitions and traveling. To me, there is nothing more inspiring or compelling than experiencing the vulnerability of another person.
Dani Paz
Westchester, New York
Being born in Brazil to Bolivian parents but living in the US was very hard for me. I had no idea who I was. I tried my best to erase my Bolivian culture to fit in at school. This only backfired and made me lose touch with who I really am. Once I got to high school I realized that this wasn’t acceptable and that I need to be who I really am, una Boliviana. Accepting my culture was the best decision of my life and I now love talking about my beautiful country and educating others on its history and current events.
Molly Ryan
Brandon, Mississippi
My name is Molly Ryan, and I have lived and grown up in Mississippi from the time I was 2 years old. I don’t like sweet tea, I’ve never shot a real gun, and almost all of my family is from New York. I love to travel and learn about other cultures, but I love living in the south, too! Throughout high school I’ve enjoyed playing soccer and tennis, participating in speech and debate, and serving as treasurer on our student government. I’ll be attending Louisiana State University in the fall, and I can’t wait to keep expanding my views of the world!
Eleni Hulme
Cardiff, Wales
Born near Liverpool, I grew up on the Welsh-English border and am now about to move to London for University. I am passionate about sustainable fashion, classic movies and YA fiction. I think it’s vital to keep up to date with current events and am glad to be part of a group sharing young people’s opinions from around the world.
Ava Saunders
Wheaton, Illinois
I grew up in Wheaton, Illinois, a small town just outside of Chicago. I have attended small Catholic schools all my life and even went to preschool in a Convent. Living in such a secluded place all my life inspired a love of escapism, which I achieve by reading about fictional places and traveling. I’ve been to four continents and many countries, and my dream is to see even more. I want to use my voice to help people all over the world.
Avery Berg
Simi Valley, California
I am a teen from a small city in southern California that has had a passion for journalism for as long as I can remember. I have been dedicated to local and global issues involving numerous topics including climate change, systemic racism, and the gun problem in America. Coming from a predominantly conservative city, being vocal about my beliefs through my local newspaper has always been an outlet for me.
Sydney Gdanski
Regina, Saskatchewan
In my sixteen years of living, I’ve moved seven times, within a year that number will change to eight. People often ask me if I enjoy moving so much and the truth is, I do. I’ve had the opportunity to live in many different types of places, from small towns such as Lake Placid, NY, to big cities such as Orlando, FL. I feel all this moving has given me a unique perspective on both myself and the world around me. Now, I reside in Regina, Saskatchewan - a small city in the Canadian prairies where I will soon be senior in high school. In my free time, I love to play volleyball, listen to music, and go on adventures with friends.
Malavika Rajesh
Sharjah, United Arab Emirates
I am an Indian living in the United Arab Emirates and the author of a cybercrime thriller, “Watch Out!” I contribute to youth-rin multimedia outlets Pressing the Future, Afro Puff Chronicles, and the Global Eye (upcoming). I believe in bringing to the forefront the kind of stories that aren;t heard always but have the greatest impact. I aspire to be a journalist covering gender inequality and other civil rights issues.
Sebastian Marciano
New York City, New York
Hi! My name is Sebastian Marciano, and I live in New York City. I love sports, art, film and music, and I am a jazz nerd. I love to have fun, explore the city and meet new people. With my free time, you could find me playing sports or video games, hanging out with friends, listening to music, or playing piano.
Jed Cosgrove
New York City, New York
As a Jew and as a New Yorker, I am constantly brought into a closed bubble, as well as pushed out of what I am familiar with. In my free time, you can catch me listening to Harry Styles, BØRNS, and Megan Thee Stallion (the queen). I love to talk about the intersection of culture and politics, leading me to be absolutely addicted to TikTok. As of Fall 2020, I am a sophomore at Heschel High School.
